I've been using this every winter since 2014 and it's become a staple of my holidays. I absolutely love it. Unfortunately I updated to catalina without doing enough research. I'll survive with the 64bit beta but I look forward to having the feature-complete version again sometime in the future. Thank you so much for my favourite way to stay cozy. It's especially needed this year.

Hi Victor, thanks so much for your kind words. I'm really glad you've enjoyed it for so long! It's really nice that it's become a small part of your life <3 I'm working on colors and the rest of the commands for the beta. Then I'll need to learn how to release versions and updates through itchio's app so they update automatically for people who use the that. Hoping to finish all that soon!

Hi Victor, wanted to let you know the macOS 64-Bit version is complete now and available on the Itch App and the Pixel Fireplace Downloads Page :)

(+1)

I don't know how it took me so long to catch this but thank you! I genuinely look forward to relaxing with it every year. Thanks for all your great work!

Sure thing! Glad you found the finished 64-bit version :)

I need help please !

This is perfect for studying and very relaxing
but I can't change the color of my fire :(

Hi! Thanks I'm glad you enjoy it :) Sorry about the fire color, the Beta version is not quite feature complete. The fire color can be changed in the other version: 'PixelFireplaceInstaller.exe' (Windows) and 'PixelFireplace_v1.2.1.dmg' (Mac pre-Catalina)

Hi again! Wanted to let you know all the features and commands like fire colors are finished and in the latest version I just uploaded (v1.2.2). You can find it on the Itch App or the Pixel Fireplace Downloads Page :)

Oh thank you very much for letting me know :D !!!!

(+1)

Your Activation key can be found in the Instructions section on the Pixel Fireplace Downloads page.

I’ve tried installing this using the Itch.io Book app.

Whenever I try and launch this, all it does is open the folder that it’s installed in. In my case it’s

D:\Program Files (x86)\itch.io\pixel-fireplace\

If I look in the folder, all it has is the PixelFireplaceInstalled.exe and a folder called .itch

If I manuaqlly run PixelFireplaceInstaller.exe, it installs. I’ve tried to install it in the Itch.io folder, but even when I attempt to launch it from the Itch.io Book app, it still just opens the folder.

Any suggestions how I cna get it to work?

For now Pixel Fireplace doesn't support the Itch App, sorry about that. When I'm finished getting all the features into the re-written 64-bit version I'll remove the PixelFireplaceInstallers and get the new version to install, launch, and update with it properly. For now though it needs to be installed and run manually without the app.

(+1)

Oh cool. Thanks for letting me know Ted. I’m also looking forward to being able to run it in full screen mode on a secondary screen.

Hello, I just added Pixel_Fireplace_Beta_v092 to the downloads which has dual-monitor support. Double-click to toggle fullscreen on/off.

Hi again :) Wanted to let you know a new version of Pixel Fireplace (v1.2.2) is now available that supports the Itch App. It will install and launch properly and auto-update when new versions are released.

Thanks heaps Ted!!!!

Tutorial for all commands:

(+6)

I'm loving this! Is there any possibility you could add Twitch chat integration for the game so viewers can interact with the fire?

(+2)

Sorry I won't be able to support that, but it's an interesting idea.

(+1)

Sad times. Thanks for the reply.

I love this! It's so cozy. And if you don't mind I had a few ideas I'd like to share. Nothing that would compromise it's simplicity. I was just thinking maybe you can add a few more commands? Like...

Forever log - the logs never burn out.
Birds - birds would start chirping for ambiance.
Ted Rocks - and "the wind" would whisper "that's right."
Maro - maybe a sleepy marshmallow would appear?

But don't get me wrong. What you have now is perfect. I greatly appreciate what you created and would like to help in any way that I can. I also have a pixel art passion project. If you would like to talk you can find me on Discord as "Michael King#4741". Thank you!

(+1)

Thanks I'm glad you enjoy it :) Forever log is already in the main version of Pixel Fireplace, but not re-implemented into the 64-bit Beta version, yet.

I'm happy that you knew of my marshmallow character, Maro ^_^ And your Undertale mod looks neat.

(+2)

Super interested in having this always on my third monitor! Is there a way to run the game in a windowed mode?

Yes there is

(+1)

Hi :) Double-click to toggle between windowed and fullscreen. The 64-bit Beta doesn't have this feature yet. I'm working on support for fullscreen on non-primary monitors again (it used to work but an OS update broke it).

(+2)

Thank you! Having lots of fun with this game

(1 edit) (+1)

you're amazing for making this thank you so much, it's so relaxing

p.s. is there a way to fullscreen it on a second monitor? when i fullscreen it pops back to my first monitor

Thank you, I'm glad you like it :) Something changed recently with Windows and it broke dual-monitor support. I got it working in the Beta version I'm rewriting, and I need to test it on a few more screens and on macOS before I put it on the Downloads page.

(1 edit)

Hello, I just added Pixel_Fireplace_Beta_v092 to the downloads which has dual-monitor support. Double-click to toggle full screen on and off. It shouldn't pop back to the first monitor in that version.

Hello, someone else was having the same issue with their secondary screen. I found the problem and fixed it (on my machine at least!). Hoping it's fixed for you now too. The fix is in the latest version 1.2.2 up on the Downloads Page and Itch App.

(+2)

Hi. Like lots of others, I found this game in the NAACP bundle... Even though there's lots of great games in it (only been through 3-4 of them so far!!!) I think this one might be my all time favorite. I'm just slowing down and taking a little bit of time to enjoy this. Thank you so much for creating a really cute game that I can enjoy whenever. It means a lot to me, which is weird, because it's such a simple game, but it really does. Thanks.

Thank you for the kind words :) I'm really glad you enjoy it

(+1)

This is my favorite release from the recent bundle. I freaking love it. I'm trying to find all the hidden commands. :)

(+1)

I'm really glad you enjoy it :) Thanks for the nice comment and sorry for the late reply!

So I am the type of person who said more often "Alexa, fireplace sounds" than "Alexa, start Spotify". This game does that, with some glorious pixel animations on top of it. The sounds are great and you have some really pretty color palettes that you can playfully explore with its easy word based system. Its basically perfect for what it is. I want a PS5 version please. :P On one hand, its not really a "game" or has a lot of "content". On the other hand, its something I would absolutely regularly use cause of how hell it does that one thing. Its more of a tool and I really wanted to give it a shoutout here though, cause I know there are dozens of us digital fireplace connoisseurs. DOZENS. Unratable / 5 Dream wish: add a guitar that you can play with your keyboard for soft sounds with fire cracking in the background. <3

More Racial Justice bundle impressions and ranking: https://itch.io/c/915453/quick-impressions-bundle-for-racial-justice

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I'm glad you enjoy it. I've thought about adding instruments like guitar and banjo in the past. If I decide to add more commands someday that could happen.

I'm enjoying reading some of your other Quick Impressions reviews as well :)

(+1)

Haha, that would be lovely. I am looking forward to get the itch notification for the update ;)

Glad you enjoy the quick impressions, only an eternity left until I am done with them, haha.

Hi there, so I bought this game with the bundle and when I launch it, it asks me for an activation code. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue or if it was an actual thing.

Same thing for me too

(1 edit)

Figured out the problem. Turns out what you need to install is the beta v0_9_1 rather than v1.2.1. Only figured this out because I noticed the different filesizes when I re-checked the downloads. I am on mac though so not sure if this can help you. Or I could be entirely wrong so...

(+1)

Just a little wrong. ;) The code is on your purchase page.

Hello :) Activation keys are on the Pixel Fireplace Downloads page below the downloads. The Beta version is DRM-free and will replace the old version soon.

(+1)

Oh, you know what? I would love to attach it to our Development Jenkins and have it throw log on there for each deploy (and red ones for failed builds). Do you have plans for an API? ;-)

Maybe try to use some GUI automation with a background application that checks the Development Jenkins deploys to throw it in. Python would be ideal for it, I argue.

I really like it, will install it at work. ^^
I just wish I could use it to get rid of pixelated, emotionally charged items, like letters, report cards, pictures, magic rings (which wont burn of cause)...

(+2)

I just got this in the bundle- I love it. The game is so simple but the detail and thought that was put into it makes the whole thing just genuinely fun to play. It immediately stood out to me and I knew I wanted to play it (and did! right after opening it) though I have no idea if it's the "setting things on fire" aspect or the "soothing campfire" aspect. Maybe both.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy it! ☺

(+1)

I love it! Dual-monitor support please! Though I might just end up running it on a separate computer all of the time. Any plans for putting it on linux? I am particularly thinking Raspberry Pi?

The dual-monitor support stopped working and I'm not sure why. Could be from a change to Windows. I have it working on the version I'm rewriting, but at the cost of being able to resize the window when in windowed-mode. Hoping I can get both features working. Not sure about macOS support, yet.

re Linux: I don't use Linux and don't have an extra machine to put it on. Supporting it would be tough for me, but I'd like to try someday. It looks like Game Maker Studio can only export to Ubuntu version 18.04.2 LTS 64-bit. It's not clear to me if they only support that old release or if they keep it up to date.

Hallo Ted, any news about the linux export? You can maybe put out a versione but only for Ubuntu in a BETA version. I would love to have a fireplace while i go for the lunch break.

Thanks for your amazing work, Max

Hi Iskal, I managed to make a build that supports Ubuntu :) You can find it on the Downloads page or via the Itch App.

Hello, I just added Pixel_Fireplace_Beta_v092 (Win/Mac) to the downloads which has dual-monitor support. Double-click to toggle fullscreen on/off.

Woo-hoo! Thank you!

Hi again, I managed to make a build that supports Ubuntu :) You can find it on the Downloads page or via the Itch App. A question for you: I don't have any experience with Raspberry Pi, can it run Ubuntu? Does this version of PF work on it? I'd like to get a Pi to test out, but I don't know where to start.

Hi Ted. I'm experimenting with running it on a Raspberry pi. The main issue seems to be that the linux binaries are compiled for an x86 processor, whereas the Pi runs on ARM. For the benefit of anyone Googling, the error is

cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

If Game Maker Studio has an option for compiling for ARM / RPi that could do it. Otherwise, I'm not certain if it'll run on the Pi. I'd be happy to help in any way I can, reach out to me at aholman using the mail service run by google.

(1 edit)

Hi Alex, thanks a lot for trying it and letting me know. You're right about ARM. However it looks like Game Maker Studio can only make Raspberry Pi ARM builds if I physically have a RPi, and it seems I may need to purchase each RPi version I want to support. I won't be able to do it anytime soon, but it would be cool for sure. I can send you an email when I do.

Edit: I misread a thread and thought I had to buy each RPi version I want to support.

(1 edit)

I'm planning to download this later on in a few days after the bundle ends, but I bought the bundle now.

Will i still be able to activate it?

I'd appreciate your reply.

(+1)

Yep! Just use the link you received in the Bundle email from Itchio. Find Pixel Fireplace in the list there, and click the Download button.

(1 edit)

Is there a way to run this in windowed mode? Edit: Nevermind. Found it in the download instructions: Double click for windowed mode.

(+1)

Didn't realize I needed this until night time and no need for the second screen. 🙏

(5 edits) (+1)

Glad you enjoy it! ☺ Yeah it's definitely best at night with the other lights in the room off or set low.

i bought the bundle but cant activate this. are they gonna fix this?

(+2)

Hi, there is an activation code for you in the 'Instructions' section on the Pixel Fireplace download page. If you can't find it just email me at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll help you out.

The 64-bit Beta version for macOS is DRM-free and doesn't need to be activated. I'll add a note about that in the instructions.

(+4)

This game is very relaxing,it has pretty graphics and the fire makes soothing crackling noises. Good stuff.

Howdy! I'm running this on macOS Catalina (version 10.15.5) and it says the app needs to be updated by the developer to work with my version.

Hi kittybee, there's another version in the Downloads called 'Pixel_Fireplace_64bitBeta_v0_9_1.zip' that will work on macOS Catalina. It's a Beta version but it has the essential features and commands. You can find some more info on that version here: https://hammertail.itch.io/pixel-fireplace/devlog/116290/macos-64-bit-beta-v091

(+1)

That works great! Thanks for your reply. :)

(+2)

yeah how do i activate it? and is the .dmg file necessary?

(2 edits) (+1)

EDIT: there's now an activation code in the 'Instructions' section on the Pixel Fireplace download page.

the .dmg file is for Mac OS

(+8)

Just an FYI, from the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality it does not seem to provide an way to get the activation key

(3 edits) (+5)

EDIT: there's now an activation code in the 'Instructions' section on the Pixel Fireplace download page.

(+1)

A MacOS 64-bit Beta build is now available in the downloads. More info in the Devlogs above.

(+3)

Hi Ted. Like everyone here I love this app, got it on Boxing Day in 2013. Any plans to update to 64 bit so that it will work on Catalina?

(+4)

Hi campbelljc. Thanks for asking! I'd forgotten that Mac OS was going to phase out 32-bit soon. I rewrote much of Pixel Fireplace to a new code base last year, but there are a lot of extra features I need to finish like dual-monitor support. I'm busy on another project, so maybe what I'll do is finish up the essential stuff and add that alongside the other builds as a 64-bit-Alpha option.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hey campbelljc, I got a MacOS 64-bit Beta build of Pixel Fireplace up on the download page today. There are a few things I still need to sort out, but fire burning works and some commands. It doesn't prevent Sleep, I'm still working on that for MacOS, so you'll need to change sleep settings. More details in the Devlog posts above.

(+2)

Love this program! I bought it back in 2013 and while I still have the original purchase email, I couldn't find the download! But for $3, it is totally worth buying again!

Hey Aaron, thanks for the kind words. I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed it so much ^-^ We closed Hex-Ray a few years ago and I moved Pixel Fireplace here, so the old download links aren’t up anymore. Sorry about that. You can email me at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com and I’ll get you your second copy that you can give it to a friend.

Hi,

a while ago i got the game on this site and you e-mailed me an activation code. Although the site told me that i had purchased the game and let me download it, it didn't show up in my library. When i wanted to download the game again i did from the hex-ray studios website, but now the site seems to be down. Can you pleas e email me a link to download it or an exe?

Thanks in advance

Hi, sorry about that. I'll get a new claimable download link to you, please email me at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com

Hey again SpyKoms. I don't know your contact information. Itch.io only shows me your username in these comments, not your email. please email me at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll send you a fresh copy that you can add to your library :)

(+2)

Hi !

It's in your plans a Rain Simulator?

(+1)

It's not in my plans, but that's a good idea ^_^

No longer works!  Crashes everytime I launch.  Shame, wanted to use it over the holidays.

(1 edit) (+1)

oh no! I have an alternate version that could work for you. Can you send me an email at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com ? And let me know what OS you're running.

(2 edits) (+1)

Gorgeous! This reminded me how I used to make fires as a kid, and also made me develop my own fire game. It's called Digital Firewood. I added a link to here on the page.

(+1)

Hey that's really cool! I like the destructible pixels you made :)

(+1)

Hello, Ted! I have not seen any updates for a long time, are you planning to add anything to the Pixel Fireplace? Are there any ideas for the development of this wonderful game?

Hey Vsevolod, thanks! Glad you like it :) Pixel Fireplace is pretty finished. I may add to it someday if I think of some good things to add, but I don't have any plans right now.

(1 edit)

I bought this several years ago (I think before it was on itch?) and I absolutely loved it but  now I can't find the code. I think I used to be able to get it from the site somehow but correct me if I'm wrong. Is there any way to recover it? I would email you but I can't find where it is. :\

Hey, go ahead and email me at tedmartens [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll look up your old purchase and activation code!
